本格的な寒さが続く2月前半。インハウスコンテストというコンテスタントを決める特別な例会に、全部で13名が参加しました！
本日のTMOM（司会）はSさん。雪や寒さの影響で突然の変更があったにもかかわらず、事前調整から当日の進行まで、スムーズに実施してくださいました！
本日は英語セッションからスタート。本日はいつもの通常例会と異なり、コンテスタント候補によるスピーチからの、参加メンバーからの論評・コメント、日本語と英語両方のテーブルトピックスの流れで実施しました。
コンテスタント候補によるスピーチは、Toastmasters暦ベテランのKさん。
Donationをテーマに、ご自身の海外での経験も交えたとても感慨深いスピーチをしてくださいました。普段日本に住んでいると、考え方や目にする機会の少なさから実行することが少ない「Donation」について、聞いているオーディエンスが立ち止まって考える機会になる、とても素敵なスピーチでした。
英語スピーチの後は、日本語によるスピーチ。こちらは経験豊富なSさんによる、「禁足地」というなんともおどろおどろしいテーマのスピーチ。日本に住んでいれば要所要所で接する機会も多い、神社や神様についてのスピーチでした。最初はどんな怖い話が展開されるのやら、とびくびくしていましたが、最終的に心がスッと軽くなって、日本の歴史や考え方の礎についても知ることができる、学びの多いスピーチでした。
横浜オーシャンズクラブは、様々なバックグラウンドや知見を持ったメンバーが参加していることもあり、スピーチを聞く中でも自身の気づきになることが数多くあって、「今週はどんな気づきがあるのかな？」と毎回楽しみになります！
今回は、英語・日本語ともに、スピーチのすぐ後に他の参加者からの論評やコメントを実施。いつもであれば誰が論評を行うか？が事前に決まっていますが、今回はその場で当てられて論評をするという形式に。みなさん、突然当てられたにも関わらず、おのおのの視点から的確なコメントをしており、この時間もとても勉強になります。
テーブルトピックスは、英語と日本語の二言語でおこないました。担当はSさん。いつもテーブルトピックのテーマ出しをする担当者が、テーマに関連してちょっとしたエピソードトークをしてくれるのですが、このエピソードトークも楽しみの一つです。
最初のテーブルトピックスは英語で実施、テーマは夢について。Ｑ１：最近見た夢または印象的な夢はなんですか？
日本語のテーマは『癖』と『子供の頃の話』。Ｑ２：あなたの特徴的な癖はなんですか？Ｑ３：昔好きだった童話はなんですか？という二つの質問が。
テーブルトピックスの回答を通じて、準備スピーチとは違ったその人の側面が見えるのも興味深いです！
本日の総合論評はKさんが担当されました。準備スピーチをされた方だけでなく、テーブルトピックスピーチや論評をいただいた方お一人お一人に対して、Kさんの視点からとても丁寧にコメントをしてくださいました。

日本語英語の準備スピーチや、複数人による論評、興味深いテーマでのテーブルトピックスと、いつもとは違った構成でしたがとても内容の濃い2時間でした。

The first half of February continues with the real cold
weather. A total of 13 people participated in a special meeting to decide the
contestants for the In-House Contest!
Today's TMOM (Toastmaster of the Meeting) was Mr.S. Despite
sudden changes caused by snow and cold weather, he managed everything from the
pre-meeting preparations to the flow of the meeting on the day itself!
The meeting began with an English session. Unlike a usual
regular meeting, today featured speeches by contestant candidates, followed by
evaluations and comments from participants, and table topics in both Japanese
and English.
The speech by the contestant candidates was given by Mr.K,
a Toastmasters veteran. The theme of the speech was "Donation," and
Mr.K shared a very moving speech that included personal experiences from
abroad. Living in Japan, it’s not often that we are exposed to or think about
donations, so it was a wonderful speech that made the audience pause and
reflect on this important subject.
After the English speech, there was a Japanese speech given
by the experienced Mr.S who spoke on the theme of “Sacred Grounds” a rather
eerie topic. The speech was about shrines and gods in Japan, which people
living in Japan are often exposed to. At first, I was anxious about what kind
of scary story might unfold, but in the end, it was a speech that lightened the
heart and provided a lot of learning about the foundations of Japanese history
and philosophy.
The Yokohama Oceans Club is made up of members with diverse
backgrounds and knowledge, so during speeches, there are always many insights
to gain. I look forward to each meeting thinking, "What new insight will I
gain this week?"
Both the English and Japanese speeches were followed by
evaluations and comments from other participants. Normally, the evaluator is
decided in advance, but today, the evaluators were selected on the spot.
Despite being chosen unexpectedly, everyone gave precise comments from their
own perspectives, and this part of the meeting was very educational.
The table topics were conducted in both English and
Japanese, with Ms.S as the facilitator. The person who provides the table
topics usually shares a short anecdote related to the theme, which is one of
the highlights of the meeting.
The first table topic was about dreams and conducted in
English. Q1: What is a dream you’ve had recently or an impressive dream?
The Japanese table topics included questions about habits
and childhood. Q2: What is a characteristic habit of yours? Q3: What fairy tale
did you like when you were a child?
It’s always interesting to see a different side of the
person through their responses to table topics, as it’s different from the
prepared speeches!
The general evaluation of the day was handled by Mr.K. Mr.K
provided very thoughtful comments from their perspective not only for the
people who gave prepared speeches but also for those who participated in the
table topics and gave evaluations.

With the preparation speeches in both Japanese and English,
multiple evaluations, and table topics with interesting themes, today’s meeting
had a different structure, but it was a very rich and engaging two hours.
