今日は4人もゲストの方が参加され、にぎやかにスタートしました。
オンラインにて、第356回例会が開催されました。

横浜オーシャントーストマスターズクラブでは、英語でのスピーチにもチャレンジしています。
英語セッションでは2つの準備スピーチが披露されました！
▼Sさんによるスピーチ
タイトル「MY MOM’S HOME COOKING」（母の家庭料理）
台湾出身のSさんによる台湾の家庭料理のご紹介。
写真を交えて興味を引くタイトルでした。
台湾出身で日本で育ったSさんの家庭料理は日本と違うものでした。
台湾ではみんなでおかずなどをシェアするスタイル。
日本は各自のものが並ぶスタイルです。
友人の家に行ったときに、その違いに驚いたとのこと。
日本のような料理が食べたい、と言ったときに、
「私がお母さんなの。私の作ったものを食べなさい。」
「でも食べたいよ」
「それなら自分でつくりなさい」
といった会話になりました。
そのあとも食べたい、という話をすると、たまに日本食レストランに連れて行ってくれるようになりました。
こうした小さい頃に感じた文化の違いを楽しくシェアしていただきました。

タイトル「Happiness Within a 2-Meter Radius」
半径2メートルの幸せ、というタイトルです。
今度コンテストに出場されるWさんのスピーチです。
コロナのころ、人との交流が限られていたころのお話。
家庭と仕事の選択を迫られ、仕事のキャリアを選んだこと。
2つを両立する方法はなかったのかな？と後悔されていたそうです。
今は仕事が終わったら、アプリの通知は切って、ご家族との時間を大切にされるようになったそう。
表情や身振り手振りを交えて、気持ちを込めてスピーチをされていました。

1分～2分で即興でスピーチするコーナーです。
職場やプライベートで、いきなり一言を求められること、ありますよね？
そうした時に瞬間的に反応できるようにするトレーニングにもなるセッションです。
・Q:過去に後悔したことはありますか？
Kさんが回答。
もともと悲観的な性分だったので、後悔することも多かったと話します。
ギターを始めたときに、「なんでもっと早く買わなかったのか？」と後悔したそうです。
人生は後悔と幸福の繰り返し。もっと積極的にチャレンジしてみるといいかもしれませんね。というKさんのメッセージでした。
・Q:小さい幸せを感じるときはどんな時ですか？
ゲストのTさんが回答しました。
英語は難しい、ということで日本語でお話をされました。
コロナになって在宅勤務ができるようになり、大雨の時には出勤せずによくなったことが良かった、とご紹介されました。
コロナ前は外に出なければいけなかったのに、そうしなくてもよくなったのは幸せに感じます、とのことでした。
・Q:秋のイベント・お祭りはあなたの地元ではどんなものがありますか？
ゲストのSさんが回答されました。
娘さんのバイオリンの発表会のことを話されました。
秋には新しい、楽しいことを始めてみませんか？というテーマでお話されました。
・Q:秋を海外で体験されたことはありますか？どんな違いがありましたか？
Kさんが回答されました。
アメリカ・アラスカ・アンカレッジに14年前に住んでいたそう。
アラスカには冬か夏しかなく、1か月はTシャツで過ごせるものの、そのほかは厳しい冬の気候だそうです。

フィードバックセッションでは、各スピーチにクラブメンバーからのフィードバックを行います。
フィードバックをもとに、自分のスピーチを改善できる、貴重な機会となっています。
・MさんがSさんのスピーチについてフィードバックを行いました。
お母さんの手料理、というのはとても惹きつけるトピックだったとコメントしました。
ただ、タイトルを「MY MOM’S HOME COOKING」から「The secrets of the ingredients」などより惹きつけるものに変えてみては？とのアドバイスでした。
トーストマスターズクラブでは、自分が行ったスピーチに、他のメンバーからのフィードバックが受けられます。
他の人からみた改善点を踏まえてブラッシュアップできるのも、大きな特色です。
・MさんがWさんのスピーチにフィードバックを行いました。
幸福に関する個人的な体験をシェアしてくれてありがとう、とコメントしました。
Wさんはスピーチ新人戦に参加されるので、改善点などについてもコメント。
過去の話と現在の話を行ったり来たりすると、聴衆にはわかりづらくなるので、もう少し間を取って説明するとよい、という点をアドバイスしていました。
また、母親の病気より仕事のキャリアを選んだ後悔が、家族との時間を大切にする変化につながった。それをもっと感情をこめて語ると、よりよく伝わるのでは？というアドバイスでした。

今日の言葉はKさんが紹介しました。
週末はアメフトの試合を観戦にいらしたそうです。
選手の方の努力に共感した、ということで「共感」を選ばれました。

「LINE!?」というタイトルの20分にわたるロングスピーチでした。
トーストマスターズには3つの基本の内容があります。
・即興スピーチ（テーブルトピックス）
・準備スピーチ
・論評/フィードバック
余った時間はどうする？クラブらしい内容を加えることで楽しむことができます。
Kさんが所属している、バンコク、ソウル、日本など、他のクラブの面白い取り組みをご紹介いただきました。
・バンコクトーストマスターズクラブ
1955年開設の歴史の長いクラブで、英語で開催されています。
LINEで役割確認をしているのが特徴的でした。
やりたい役割に名前を入れて、グループLINEに投稿する方式。
飽きない工夫とし、てワークショップ・スピーチマラソンなども行っているそうです。
即興スピーチについても、メンバーがフィードバックするのも特徴的。
・ソウル・日本語トーストマスターズクラブ
2024年12月に開設された新しいクラブ。
日本語でクラブミーティングを開催しています。
スピーチを行わない、ヘルパー参加者もショートスピーチするのも特徴的。
日本語が母国語の人にとってはお手軽に韓国との国際交流ができます。
・日本・ロックミュージックトーストマスターズクラブ
2021年に開設されたクラブ。
例会は英語で行われています。
ロックミュージックという名前の通り、音楽に関連したセクションがあります。
Song of the dayという、好きな曲を紹介するコーナーがあります。
Today's Liveという10分間の演奏の時間があるのも特徴的。
ライブイベントも夏・冬の2回に行っています。
・日本・関内トーストマスターズクラブ
1991年に開設されたクラブ。
最近あった驚いたことを共有する「驚いた通信」というコーナーもあります。
スピーカーにインタビューして、スピーチの内容を深ぼりするセッションも。
例会で活躍したメンバーをたたえるコーナーもあります。
また、スピーチについてスタンディングオベーションで称える時間もあり、意外と大好評、例会が盛り上がりました。」
新しいことを試すことで、面白くなり、刺激にもつながるのでは？
というスピーチでした。

日本語でも、即興スピーチセッション「テーブルトピックス」を行いました。
日本語でも、スピーチの瞬発力を鍛えています。
・おすすめの観光地は？
ゲストのEさんが回答してくださいました。
NY・プラザホテル、トランプさんが持っているホテルがおすすめ。
ロサンゼルスからサンフランシスコへのドライブ旅行もおすすめ。
というお話がありました。
・一番好きな邦楽アーティストはなんですか？
Iさんが回答。
好きな日本のアーティストは、ミスターチルドレンやスピッツ、モーニング娘。など当時はやっていた歌とのこと。
・一番好きな洋楽は何ですか？
Mさんが回答してくれました。
Take6というコーラスグループが好き。
天使にラブソングをという映画の挿入歌。
小さいころ教会に行っていたので、賛美歌には親しんでいたそう。
その編曲者がTake6のメンバーだったそう。
・人生で初めて買ったCD、思い入れのあるCDは何ですか？
Kさんが回答してくれました。
ブルース・スプリングスティーンのBorn in the U.S.A.なども好きだったそう。
中村あゆみの翼の折れたエンジェルもすきだったそう。
▼フィードバックセッション
日本語のセッションでも、それぞれのスピーチにフィードバックを行いました。
・SさんがKさんのロングスピーチのフィードバックを行いました。
18分～22分という長いスピーチを完了されたことは素晴らしい。
他のクラブの取り組みを紹介されているのもとてもよかったです、と良い点を評価されていました。
改良点についても紹介されていました。
スピーチタイトルは「LINE!?」とあるが、スピーチの一部分だけを切り取ったものではないか。
「新しいことをやってみよう」といったタイトルの方がスピーチ全体を共有できたのではないかと思います。とのこと。
また、オンラインのZOOM画面であっても、手を画面内で動かすなど、ボディランゲージの重要性について話していらっしゃいました。

総合論評セッションでは、今回のクラブミーティングについて振り返ります。
クラブミーティング中は「あー」や「えーと」などのつなぎ言葉の数などもカウントして、聴きやすいスピーチを目指します。
この数もフィードバックして、各自がスピーチのスタイルを改善できるようにしています。

We use it during club meetings to expand our vocabulary.

At Yokohama Ocean Toastmasters Club, we also challenge ourselves with speeches in English.
Two prepared speeches were delivered during the English session!
▼Speech by S
Title: “MY MOM'S HOME COOKING”
Mr. S, originally from Taiwan, introduced Taiwanese home cooking.
The title, accompanied by photos, was very engaging.
Ms. S, who grew up in Japan but is originally from Taiwan, shared how her family's cooking differed from Japanese home cooking.
In Taiwan, it's common to share dishes like side dishes.
In Japan, each person has their own plate of food.
He mentioned being surprised by this difference when visiting a friend's house.
When he expressed wanting to eat Japanese-style food,
the conversation went like this:
“I'm your mom. Eat what I made.”
“But I want it!”
“Then make it yourself.”
That's how the conversation went.
Later, when he mentioned wanting it again, his mother occasionally took him to Japanese restaurants.
He shared these childhood cultural differences in a delightful way.
▼Ms. W's Speech
Title: “Happiness Within a 2-Meter Radius”
This is Ms. W's speech for an upcoming speech contest.
It's about a time during COVID when human interaction was limited.
Forcing her to choose between time with her family and her work. She chose her career path.
She said she regretted it, wondering if there hadn't been a way to balance both.
Now, she turns off app notifications after work and makes it a point to cherish time with her family.
She delivered her speech with feeling, incorporating facial expressions and gestures.
▼Table Topics
This is a segment where you give an impromptu speech lasting 1 to 2 minutes.
You know how sometimes at work or in your personal life, you're suddenly asked to say something?
This session also trains you to react instantly in those moments.
・Q: Have you ever had any regrets in the past?
K answered.
She said she used to be a pessimistic person by nature, so she had many regrets.
When she started playing guitar, she regretted, “Why didn't I buy one sooner?”
Life is a cycle of regret and happiness. Maybe it's better to take on challenges more actively. That was K's message.
・Q: When do you feel small moments of happiness?
Guest T answered.
She spoke in Japanese, saying English was difficult.
She shared that since the pandemic allowed working from home, not having to commute during heavy rain was a positive change.
Before COVID, she had to go out, but not having to do so anymore felt like a happy thing.
・Q: What autumn events or festivals are there in your hometown?
Guest S answered.
He talked about his daughter's violin recital.
He spoke on the theme of “Why not start something new and fun this autumn?”
・Q: Have you ever experienced autumn overseas? What differences did you notice?
K answered.
He mentioned living in Anchorage, Alaska, USA, 14 years ago.
Alaska only has winter or summer; while you can wear a T-shirt for a month, the rest of the year has harsh winter weather.

During the feedback session, club members provide feedback on each speech.
This provides a valuable opportunity to improve one's speech based on the feedback received.
・Mr. M provided feedback on Mr. S's speech.
He commented that the topic of his mother's home cooking was very engaging.
However, he advised changing the title from “MY MOM'S HOME COOKING” to something more compelling, like “The secrets of the ingredients.”
At Toastmasters Club, you receive feedback from other members on your speeches.
A major feature is the ability to refine your speech based on improvement points seen by others.
・M provided feedback on W's speech.
She commented, “Thank you for sharing your personal experiences about happiness.”
Since W-san is participating in the speech contest for new members, she also commented on areas for improvement.
She advised that jumping back and forth between past and present stories can confuse the audience, so taking a bit more time to explain each point would be better.
She also suggested that the regret over choosing her career over her mother's illness led to a change in valuing family time. Expressing this with more emotion would make it come across better.

Today's word was introduced by K-san.
It seems they went to watch an American football game over the weekend.
They chose “共感(きょうかん,empathy)” because they felt a connection to the players' efforts.
▼K's Speech
It was a 20-minute long speech titled “LINE!?”.
Toastmasters has three core components:
・Impromptu speeches (Table Topics)
・Prepared speeches
・Speech evaluations/feedback
What to do with leftover time? You can enjoy adding club-specific activities.
K shared interesting initiatives from other clubs he belongs to, such as Bangkok, Seoul, and Japan.
・Bangkok Toastmasters Club
A long-established club founded in 1955, conducted in English.
Their distinctive feature is using LINE for role confirmation.
Members post their desired roles in a group LINE chat.
To keep things fresh, they also hold workshops and speech marathons.
Another unique aspect is members providing feedback on impromptu speeches.
・Seoul Japanese Toastmasters Club
A new club established in December 2024.
Club meetings are held in Japanese.
A unique feature is that even non-speaker participants (helpers) give short speeches.
This provides an easy way for native Japanese speakers to engage in international exchange with Korea.
・Japan Rock Music Toastmasters Club
A club established in 2021.
Regular meetings are conducted in English.
True to its name, it features music-related sections.
It includes a “Song of the Day” segment where members introduce their favorite tunes.
Another distinctive feature is the “Today's Live” segment, a 10-minute performance time.
Live events are also held twice a year, in summer and winter.
・Japan・Kannai Toastmasters Club
A club established in 1991.
It features a segment called “Surprise Report” where members share recent surprising experiences.
There are sessions where speakers are interviewed to delve deeper into their speech content.
There's also a segment honoring members who excelled at the meeting.
Additionally, there's time to applaud speeches with a standing ovation, which was surprisingly well-received and really energized the meeting.
The speech suggested that trying new things makes things more interesting and can be stimulating.

We also held an impromptu speech session called “Table Topics” in Japanese.
We're honing our quick-thinking speech skills in Japanese too.
・What are your recommended tourist spots?
Guest E shared their answers.
They recommended the Plaza Hotel in NY, the hotel owned by Mr. Trump.
They also recommended a road trip from Los Angeles to San Francisco.
・Who is your favorite Japanese artist?
Guest I answered.
Favorite Japanese artists include Mr. Children, Spitz, and Morning Musume. These were popular songs back then.
・What's your favorite Western music?
Guest M answered.
Likes the vocal group Take6.
The insert song from the movie “Sister Act”.
Since they went to church as a child, they were familiar with hymns.
The arranger was apparently a member of Take6.
・What was the first CD you ever bought? What CD holds special meaning for you?
K answered.
They also liked Bruce Springsteen's “Born in the U.S.A.”
They also liked Ayumi Nakamura's “Tsubasa no Oretta Angel” (Broken Winged Angel).

We also provided feedback on each speech during the Japanese session.
・S-san provided feedback on K-san's long speech.
Completing such a long speech (18-22 minutes) was wonderful.
Introducing initiatives from other clubs was also highly praised as a positive point.
Suggestions for improvement were also shared.
The speech title “LINE!?” seemed to focus on just one part of the speech.
A title like “Let's Try Something New” might have better conveyed the speech's overall message.
She also emphasized the importance of body language, even on a Zoom screen, such as moving your hands within the frame.

The Overall Review Session reflected on this club meeting.
During club meetings, we count the number of filler words like “um” or “uh” to aim for more listenable speeches.
This count is also provided as feedback so each member can improve their speaking style.
