6月22日（日）ハイブリッド例会が行われました。

オーシャンは、月に一回は完全オンライン。もう一回はオンラインと会場をつなぐハイブリットの例会となっています。急遽体調が優れず、足を運ぶのが難しくなってしまったという方でも安心です。また、遠方や海外にお住まいの方でもご参加いただけます！

実際、今日はKさんはフィリピンからの参加でした。

さて、実は今日は今季最後の例会でした。

会長のEさんは、TMOM（今日の司会進行役）も務めながら、会長から最後のご挨拶をされました。Eさんのお力のお陰で、横浜オーシャントーストマスターズクラブは「準優秀クラブ」という称号が与えられました。1年間、本当にお疲れ様でした。

続いては、次期役員からのショートスピーチ。

そして、準備スピーチに移ります。

今日の日本語の準備スピーチは、ｗさんの「私の『もしドラ』 ～もしもマネージャーが韓国ドラマからマネジメント を学んだら～」です。

タイトルがウィットに富んでいてすばらしいですよね。

お仕事ではマネージメントをされているWさん。上手くいかない時は、ビジネス書を読むそうですが、「言ってることはわかるんだけど、出来ないんだよ」と解決までには至りませんでした。そこで、ドラマが大好きなWさんは、現実逃避として韓国ドラマを見始めました。すると、、解決のヒントが見つかったのです。なぜビジネス書では腑に落ちなかったアドバイスが韓国ドラマでは入ってきたのか、を分析して楽しくスピーチにしてくださいました。

スピーチのあとは、Sさんによるテーブルトピックス（即興スピーチ）です。

今日の言葉「新たな」にちなんだ質問を考えて下さいました。

・新しいチャレンジについて

・異国での新しい発見について

・食べ物で癒されることがあるか

・外国人メンバーへ、日本語で好きな言葉はあるか

・アジサイがきれいな季節だが、まだ知られていないおすすめスポットはあるか

テーブルトピックスのあとは、Wさんのスピーチへの論評です。

Sさんが担当されました。

ボディーランゲージが駆使されて、スピーチの構成とこのような効果があった、こんな工夫がされていた、と客観的に伝えられました。良かったところや改善点など、自分では気が付かない、聞き手目線でのフィードバックがもらえるのがこの論評です。

休憩を挟み、後半は英語セッションです。

横浜オーシャントーストマスターズクラブはバイリンガルクラブなので、例会も前半と後半で日本語、英語と言語を変えていきます。日本語を学びたい外国人も、英語を上達させたい日本人も双方にメリットがある構成になっています。

英語の今日の言葉は、Kさんによる「mitigation」でした。

少し難しい単語ですが、ニュースや新聞では耳にする言葉です。日本語だと「緩和」という意味になります。

英語の準備スピーチは、KGさん。早速、今日の言葉「mitigation」を使っていました。さすがです！

スピーチのタイトルは、「Quiet leadership」です。

これまで、トーストマスターズクラブで様々なリーダーの役割に挑戦してきたKGさん。

実はあまり得意ではないということ、プレッシャーの中任務を果たして、感じたこと、成長したことをシェアしてくださいました。

続いて、英語のテーブルトピックス。新メンバーのAさんが担当してくれました。

・Where is the hidden gem in Yokohama?

・What is your failure changing to the turning point?

・Is there anything you can’t post on social media?

・Have you ever misjudged anyone? 

など、バラエティーに富んだ質問をしてくださいました。

私は、３つめの質問を投げかけていただいたのですが、全然思い浮かびませんでした。ですが、全然即興で答えられない時も、周りが助けてくれます。

その後、KGさんのスピーチに対して、Lさんが論評をしました。

Lさんはトライリンガル。英語もとてもお上手です。改善点を伝える時は、言葉を選ぶのが難しいのですが、Lさんは相手を嫌な気持ちにさせることなく、むしろ勇気づけるようなコメントをされました。KGさんも笑顔になっていました。

最後には、最優秀スピーチ賞、ベストテーブルトピックス賞、ベスト論評賞など、

皆で投票をして頑張りをたたえます。

今日も盛りだくさんの2時間でした。

オンラインで参加された、ゲストからは、「スピーチにとても感動しました」「学びの時間になりました」と素敵なコメントをいただきました。

A Hybrid Meeting Was Held on Sunday, June 22

Yokohama Ocean Toastmasters holds one fully online meeting and one hybrid meeting each month, connecting both in-person and online participants. This setup is perfect for those who may suddenly feel unwell and find it difficult to attend in person, as well as for members living far away or even overseas. In fact, today, K-san  joined us all the way from the Philippines!

Today was actually the final meeting of the current term.

Our president, E-san, served as the Toastmaster of the Day while also delivering her closing remarks as president. Thanks to E-san’s leadership, Yokohama Ocean Toastmasters Club earned the title of “Select Distinguished Club.” Thank you, E-san, for all your hard work this past year!

Next, we had short speeches from the incoming officers, followed by the prepared speech session.

The Japanese prepared speech was delivered by W-san, titled:

"My Version of ‘What If the Manager Read a Korean Drama Instead of a Business Book?"

What a witty and intriguing title!

W-san, who works in management, shared that when things weren’t going well at work, she would often read business books. However, she found herself thinking, “I understand what it’s saying, but I just can’t do it.” That’s when she turned to Korean dramas—something she loves—as a form of escapism. Surprisingly, she found hints and insights that helped solve her problems. Her speech analyzed why the advice in business books didn’t resonate, while the same ideas portrayed in Korean dramas did. It was both thoughtful and entertaining.

After the speech, we had the Table Topics session led by S-san.

He prepared questions related to today’s Japanese Word of the Day, “arata na” (new):

• About new challenges
  
  

• New discoveries in a foreign country
  
  

• Whether food can be a source of comfort
  
  

• Favorite Japanese word for non-Japanese speakers
  
  

• Lesser-known places to see hydrangeas in this beautiful season
  
  

Following Table Topics, S-san also gave a speech evaluation for W-san’s presentation.

She highlighted the use of body language, the effectiveness of the structure, and how certain techniques enhanced the message. This kind of objective feedback helps speakers realize things they may not notice themselves.

After a short break, we moved on to the English session.

Yokohama Ocean Toastmasters is a bilingual club, so our meetings are conducted in both Japanese and English—beneficial for both foreigners learning Japanese and Japanese members improving their English.

The English Word of the Day was “mitigation,” presented by K-san.

It’s a bit of a challenging word, but one you often hear in the news. In Japanese, it means “緩和” (relief or alleviation).

Our English prepared speech was by KGsan, and he skillfully used today’s word “mitigation” in her speech—well done!

Her speech was titled "Quiet Leadership."

KG-san has taken on several leadership roles within Toastmasters and shared his personal journey—how leadership doesn’t come easily to her, how she handled pressure, and how she grew through those experiences.

Then we moved on to the English Table Topics session, led by our new member, A-san.

Her questions were diverse and thought-provoking:

• What failure became a turning point in your life?
  
  

• Is there anything you wouldn’t post on social media?
  
  

• Have you ever misjudged someone?
  
  

I was asked the third question, but I couldn’t think of an answer at all. Still, even when you're completely stuck, people around you are always ready to help.

Following this, L-san gave a speech evaluation for KG-san’s speech.

L-san is trilingual and speaks English fluently. Giving constructive feedback without discouraging the speaker is not easy, but L-san managed it beautifully. His comments were uplifting and encouraging, and KG-san responded with a big smile.

At the end of the meeting, we held voting for the Best Speaker, Best Table Topics, and Best Evaluator awards to recognize everyone’s efforts.

It was another rich and fulfilling two-hour session.

A guest who joined us online commented, “I was deeply moved by the speeches,” and “It was a very inspiring learning experience.”
