お盆期間ということで、いつもよりも人数が少ない例会でした。ですが、参加人数が少ない＝一人一人が話す時間が長くなる！ダブルロールにもチャレンジできる！という良い面もあります。
進行役（TMOM）は、S野さん。事前の役割の調整から例会中のタイムマネジメントまでしっかり務めてくださいました。さて、いよいよ例会の始まりです！
まずは、英語の準備スピーチ。
今日は、先日ご入会されたMさんのIce Breakerスピーチです。
自己紹介をスピーチにしてお話しいただくのですが、「Mさんを知るための旅」と設定されて、お仕事、音楽、TMCでやりたいことなどの小トピックを「駅」と表現され、ユーモアに満ちたスピーチをしてくれました。6分という短い時間でしたが、Mさんのことを知れる、もっと知りたい、と感じる時間でした。
スピーチの次は、英語のテーブルトピックス（即興スピーチ）です。
テーブルトピックスマスターとして、お題を考えてくださったのは、S田さん。
・お盆休みの予定は？
・盆踊りの思い出を教えて
・浴衣にまつわる思い出は？
・着物、浴衣、着てみたいと思う？
・花火にまつわる思い出は？
といった質問に即興で1分間～1分半でスピーチをします。祭りや花火は日本の夏の風物詩。皆、良い思い出、ほろ苦い思い出があります。過去、現在、未来について、貴重なエピソードが聞けました。
さて、次のセッションは論評です。
Mさんのスピーチに対して、ベテランスピーカーのＷＭさんがフィードバックをスピーチとしてお話しされました。さすが、ＷＭさん。おそらく、私たち聞き手が全員感じていたであろう、素晴らしい点を詳しく、素敵な言葉選びでＭさんに伝えてくれました。
スピーチも披露しっぱなしではなく、第三者目線でアドバイスをもらえるのが、トーストマスターズクラブの魅力です。
休憩を挟み、後半の日本語セッションへ。
日本語の準備スピーチ2本からスタートです。
１本目は、Ｌさんの「ＡＩエージェントって一体何なの？」。Ｌさんはテック系の会社にお勤めということで、スピーチを通じてAIのことを教えてくれます。今日はAIは情報をくれるだけじゃなくて、行動にも移せるんですよ、ということを実践を交えて教えて下さいました。人の手であれば、30分以上かかるであろう分析、まとめ、提案、メール作成を2~3分で処理してしまいました。AIを使いこなせるスキルを身に付けることができれば、シゴデキ人間になれる、と感じました。
スピーチ２本目は、ＫＭさんによる、「330円のたい焼き」。
新橋の交差点の角にある、有名なたい焼き屋さんにまつわる話をユーモアいっぱいに話してくださいました。330円のたい焼きは高い・・でもそれだけの価値があるのだろうか。迷った末に、たい焼きを購入。一口かじったＫＭさんの表情や心の声がリアルに感じられました。お昼時に、大好物の話をされたので・・お腹が鳴ってしまいました(笑)
スピーチのあとは、日本語のテーブルトピックスです。
テーブルトピックスマスターは、Ｋ戸さん。ご自身の夏の思い出をシェアしつつ、スムーズに質問へとつなげられました。
・夏休みの理想と現実
・AIをどんなことに使っている？
・失敗したなぁ、という経験ありますか？
・盆踊りで経験した、○○な思い出
など、バラエティーに富んだ内容でした。
ＷＭさんが、「理想を下げることも大切」という言葉に、ハッとしました。それをご自身のエピソードを交えて、即興で伝えられる柔軟性と瞬発力。素晴らしいです！
ＷＭさんのこの力が私の「理想」なのですが、まずは「無言にならない」と言うところに理想を下げて、頑張ってみます。
その後は、Ｌさんのスピーチへの論評を、Ｓ木さん。
ＫＭさんへの論評をＳ田さんがしてくださいました。
Ｓ木さんもＬさんと同じくテック系にお強いので、するどい目線でのフィードバックが聞けました。Ｓ田さんは、丁寧に言葉を選びながら、完璧と思われるＫＭさんへアドバイスをされました。
2時間の盛りだくさんな例会でした。
その後、Tea Partyを開催し、例会の中ではなかなかおしゃべりができないことを話す時間もありました。Zoomのブレイクアウトルーム機能を使って少人数で、他愛もないことを話せました。時には、リラックスした状態でのおしゃべりも楽しいですよね。
今日も充実した日曜日の午前を過ごすことができました。（しかも自宅に居ながら！）

August 10, 2025 (Sun) – 350th Zoom Meeting
Because it was during the Obon holiday season, today’s meeting had fewer participants than usual. But a smaller number of participants also means more speaking time for each person! It even gave people the chance to take on double roles—one of the hidden advantages.
Our Toastmaster of the Meeting (TMOM) was Mr.S, who did an excellent job managing everything—from coordinating the roles beforehand to keeping perfect time during the meeting. And now, the meeting begins!
First up was the prepared English speech.
Today, we enjoyed the Ice Breaker speech by our new member, M-san.
This is a self-introduction speech, but she cleverly framed it as “A Journey to Get to Know Me,” using “stations” as metaphors for different small topics—work, music, and goals at TMC. The speech was full of humor and charm. In just six minutes, we learned a lot about M-san and were left wanting to know more.
Next came the English Table Topics (impromptu speeches).
Serving as Table Topics Master was Ms. ST, who prepared the following questions:
l What are your plans for the Obon holidays?
l Share a memory of Bon Odori.
l Do you have any memories involving yukata?
l Would you like to try wearing a kimono or yukata?
l Share a memory about fireworks.
Each participant spoke for 1 to 1.5 minutes. Festivals and fireworks are iconic parts of Japanese summer, and everyone had their own happy—or bittersweet—stories to share. We heard valuable episodes from the past, present, and even about the future.
The next session was speech evaluations.
Veteran speaker WM evaluated M-san’s Ice Breaker. As expected, WM picked up on the wonderful points that all of us listeners must have noticed, and expressed them beautifully in words. One of the strengths of Toastmasters is that you don’t just give a speech and leave it at that—you get constructive feedback from a third-party perspective.
After a short break, we moved on to the Japanese session.
We started with two prepared Japanese speeches.
The first was by L-san: “What Exactly is an AI Agent?”
Working in the tech industry, L-san used the speech to teach us about AI—showing that AI can not only give information but also take action. Through a live demonstration, we saw tasks that might take humans over 30 minutes—analysis, summaries, proposals, email writing—completed by AI in just 2–3 minutes. It made me realize that mastering AI skills could turn you into a truly efficient professional.
The second speech was by K-san.: “A 330-Yen Taiyaki.”
This humorous story centered on a famous taiyaki shop located at a street corner in Shimbashi. Is a 330-yen taiyaki expensive? Is it worth it? After some hesitation, K-san bought one, and as she took the first bite, we could almost feel her emotions and hear her inner voice. Listening to this story right around lunchtime made my stomach rumble!
Then came the Japanese Table Topics session.
Our Table Topics Master was Mr.KH, who smoothly connected his own summer memories to the following questions:
l Summer vacation: ideal vs. reality
l How do you use AI?
l Share an experience when you failed at something
l A unique memory from Bon Odori
One moment that stuck with me was W-san's comment, “Sometimes it’s important to lower your expectations.” She shared this insight through a personal story, showing great flexibility and quick thinking—qualities I truly admire. For me, my “ideal” is to be like her, but for now, I’ll lower my expectations to simply “not going silent” and work on that first.
Afterward, L-san’s speech was evaluated by ST, and K.M.’s speech by SK. Since SK is also well-versed in technology, we got to hear sharp, insightful feedback for L-san. ST gave thoughtful, carefully chosen words of advice to K.M., whose speech had seemed almost flawless.
It was a fully packed two-hour meeting.
Afterward, we held a Tea Party, where we could chat about things we normally can’t discuss during the meeting. Using Zoom’s breakout room feature, we split into small groups for casual conversations. Sometimes, relaxed chatting like this is really enjoyable.
It was another fulfilling Sunday morning (all from the comfort of my home!).
